The TIE Fighter ( Darth Vader's, cool!) is very realistic except for the blue areas that should be gray. The Y-Wing, however, is better. It comes with a really nice Rebel pilot (not Luke!) and has lots of terrific details including a storage compartment and blaster cannon. The only thing wrong is that the cockpit is a little flat. Overall this set is great and I highly recommend it. P.S. I love the R5-D4! ...more

It is easy to feel cheated when Lego makes you buy this double set to get Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, but the Y-Wing is good enough to soften the blow. Vader's TIE Fighter is big and durable; not underbuilt and skimpy like some of the Star Wars sets available. The Y-Wing, however, is pretty light in pieces and effect. Including Darth Vader a Rebel Polit and a red R2-D2 named R5-D4, A rare droid that is similar to R2-D2! The TIE Fighter wings can be made curved or just flat. The Y-wing has a good design but I would, as other people said, put a bomb bay and the shiny colored legos like the tie's laser cannons as small bombs. I think the Y-wing and tie aren't the best combo. I would put Darth Vader's tie and two normal ties in one box, and one x-wing, Y-wing, and B-wing in another. ...more

It is quit sturdy with two storage compartments. It also has a red droid and pilot. The rotating turret is nice, and the engines are really cool. The tie fighter is not bad, but I do not really like it. It has Darth Vader with a cloak and light saber. It has two guns on the front. They are actually two red lights on the cockpit. The wings can and will sometimes fall off, but if you would like a tie advanced fighter ...more

The TIE Fighter/Y-Wing Lego set has been releasesd three times (1999, 2002, 2004) and is a classic Star Wars Lego set containing two great craft. My all time favorite, the Y-Wing, is a beutiful starfighter with two hidden compartments (one detatchable), an R5-D4 unit, Rebel Pilot "Gold Leader", and a rotating twin-ion turret located above the cockpit. The Y-Wing is quite durable also. The TIE Fighter (which is actually a TIE Advanced) is too a good starfighter that comes with Vader, his lightsaber, and his cape. Although ...more

But after a while of playing with it i started to wish that LEGO had put more thought into it. I mean, there are 2 secret compartments on the Y-Wing but the set doesn't come with anything to put in them.And on the TIE ADVANCED there is nowhere to put Darth Vaders' light saber.
