The story is comprised of short sentences that are easy to understand and recognize for early reading. The subject matter is excellent for young Lego fans. The fire theme incorporates the Lego buildings, people and fire department vehicles. The art is cartoon style lego - not still photography. Good for the price and provides vocabulary for younger readers. ...more

My wife teaches robotics to kids in her school's evening clubs and also in various summer robotic camps in Silicon Valley CA, We bought this for teaching kids grades 5 thru' 8 and found that it has excellent resource for the teacher and kids alike. This book as an interesting storyline to read which gets kids involved into robotic designs rather than cookie cutter instructions that we usually find in other books. This book is intended for further instruction AFTER the tutorials that came with Mindstorms are completed. It is a great way to keep your robot builders interested and challenged. Looking for a birthday gift (15th birthday) for my son that would spark some interest to do something besides playing video games led me to this Lego product and I must say the venture was successful. He has truly enjoyed using his "mind" and "hands" to build his robots and looks forward to coming home after school to do just that instead of craving the Playstation as before. This was the first Mindstorms book that I read and it was really easy to understand and got me off to a quick start. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars was that the graphics and text are printed on an off white background and it made it a little harder to read and the graphics themselves are all black and white and some of them were a little hard to figure out the robot designs because of it.
