Ultimate Lego Book
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-01-10
Summary: Stars in his eyes
... We bought this book as a Christmas gift for our 10-year-old nephew [in combination with Lego Crazy Action Contraptions: A Lego Inventions Book (Klutz)]. His eyes were as big and round as Christmas-tree ornaments as he flipped through the books and saw the myriad wonderful things he could build with his treasured blocks. And, with two huge tubs of Lego pieces already in his possession, we figured he didn't need yet another set of Legos... but perhaps something nifty to build with them all. This fills the bill nicely!

Summary: Ultimate Lego Book
... I have 3 boys who all clamor to look at this book. They all love legos and this book has great pictures and inspiration. It's a must for any avid lego fan.

Summary: My kids' favorite book for years now
... My almost-11-yo son got this book several years ago. He took it to school the first day of first grade because he was supposed to bring his favorite book. That was at least 5 years ago and the book is on my dining room table from where he and his younger (7yo) brother were looking at it last night. It's never on his bookshelf - it's always either on his bed or floor or otherwise out because he looks at it all the time. Both kids read regular books, too, of course, but this one is almost like one of their toys. I don't

Editorial Reviews [1] ... Product Description | Discover the LEGO Universe! This unique book brings DK style to the world of LEGO, one of the world's best-selling toys. It presents amazing LEGO sculptures -- from life-size dinosaurs, to a time machine, to Einstein's head, more than 15 feet tall. It features stunning original photography from LEGO model-making centers, as well as the LEGO Group's archives, parks, and competitions. It also inventively introduces children to some of the greatest cities in the world -- in LEGO form.

[2] ... Review | "This book is not a book about a toy. It is a book about an idea, a set of values, and a long-term commitment to empowering children to use their creativity and build their imagination." So states Lego Group president Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen in his introduction to this fascinating, visually exciting tribute to Lego bricks and the people who play with them. Lego "maniacs" are no mere invention of Lego Group's industrious marketing machine. Enthusiastic fans of the ingeniously designed, colorful plastic

Lego Crazy Action Contraptions: A Lego Inventions Book (Klutz)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-11-04 Summary: The best addition to any Lego collection ... My son has a HUGE bin of Legos and enjoys building and rebuilding. This box/kit really challenges him. The best part is most of the contraptions have a function. He loves the candy dispenser made with Legos and rubber bands. I highly recommend this for any Lego lover! ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-04-03 Summary: Hours of fun ... This has many fun and challenging activities a child can do with Legos. The projects use the pieces that come with the book plus basic pieces most Lego fans will already own. Easy to follow directions with fun results. The child can use the basic ideas and expand upon them, so this kit isn't limited as some are. We got it for my son's 10th birthday and I think it would be appropriate for an 8 to 14 year old. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-05-05 Summary: legos to go ... My ten year old loves legos ... and I love peace and quiet in the car! This product worked out great as a "trip treat", the bag was great so he could keep track of them. We use an aluminum cake pan with a plastic cover for a lego desk/holder in the car, but the book with a bag made it so he could take it into the hotel and restaurant with no fuss ... and isn't that what every mom really wants ??? no fuss??? GO LEGOS!!!!!!!! ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-11-17 Summary: We all love it! ... We got this for our four year old at the time. He is almost 7 now, and we all still enjoy choosing instructions from this book to work on together. I do think the pouch is a little small for all the pieces. The zip line "robot" as my kids call it doesn't work so great, but otherwise, we've enjoyed all the projects - takes between 8 and 15 minutes to build one, if we don't stop to play together. I agree that if the child is 8 or older, this would be something they would need very little help with. Of course, you need ...more

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT-G Programming Guide (Technology in Action)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-08-09 Summary: Lego Mindstorms NXT_G Programming Guide ... When it comes to wanting to do Lego Mindstorm NXT-G, this is the first book you should get. The book shows the reader what different blocks are and how they work. The book also reads in terms that middle school students can understand and follow. Programming is the most difficult item that you have to do with a roboit. This book shows is a great resource for people that are in to lego roboits. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-02-25 Summary: Great resource for NXT-G programming ... This book covers a lot of ground on NXT-G programming and is a must have resource for anyone serious about programming in NXT-G as the on line help included with the NXT set is not adequate. As a professional programmer and a robotics hobbyist, I would recommend that anyone wanting to bring out the full potential of their NXT creations move to a text based language like Robot-C instead. While NXT-G is good for simple programs, it is just to difficult to create anything of any complexity as the graphical elements and ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-07-16 Summary: The Best, Most Complete Guide to NXT-G ... There's no other book out there that covers the NXT-G programming language. Jim Kelly covers the subject thoroughly, in a clear, friendly and encouraging style. The book not only covers NXT-G, it's also a primer on what programming is and how it works. With this book, teachers, students and beginners will have everything they need to understand how NXT-G works and how to use it. Advanced users will learn a thing or two as well, particularly with respect to some of the lesser known blocks within the NXT-G program. ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-02-17 Summary: Great Book! ... We bought this book for our nine year old son who had recently received the Mindstorms NXT for Christmas. He could not put the book down - read it from cover to cover and thinks it is a great book. Highly recommend. ...more

Maximum Lego NXT: Building Robots with Java Brains
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-04-28 Summary: Excellent Book ... Despite the nasty reviews surrounding this book, I strongly dis-agree. I thought this book was extremely helpful. I am a java programmer but my work is in the data integration area. This book really helped me to step out of the box and start programming movement between motors, sensors, etc. I enjoy all of Brian's writings, blogs, books, etc. You won't find a better book about programming NXT bricks with Java. And who expects a 12 year old to pick up this book and understand? It's a book most suitable for experienced ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-10-14 Summary: Java Brains - Its a good read for the NXT geek ... I bought this book specifically to get some information on the NXT and some building ideas. The book has easily met my expectations in these areas. There are some great ideas for building robots and a bunch of good info about building techniques and the effective use of sensors. I don't plan on programming in Java (I prefer C), however the ideas and code in the book are easily transferable to any programming language. There are detailed building instructions and excellent examples that I haven't found in any other ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-08-24 Summary: A Great Start ... Although the book sounds otherwise, it is in fact a good start for advanced programmers. A lot of the code does not work right out of the box, but provides a good starting point for advanced programmers to build on. If you are a beginning java programmer, this book probably is not for you because it deals with concepts that are incomplete as described in the book, but an intermediate-to-advanced programmer can take these concepts and modify them as need be and quickly make easy projects more advanced. Overall, I think ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-07-17 Summary: Maximum Lego NXT: Building Robots with Java Brains ... If you are one of those Java guys, hands on, and a mechanical control lover, this is a book you don't want to miss. From programming point of view, some very useful topics are Bluetooth setup (both Window and Linux), Serial Communication setup, Vision detection, and Voice Control. You will be amazed of how you can realize those technologies into controlling an NXT. There are still many other interesting subjects from machanical/control point of view. This includes using GPS receiver(where you can learn NMEA Data format). ...more

Lego Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy (Prima Official Game Guide)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-03-14 Summary: Excellent, full color guide with lots of pictures. ... Well illustrated and carefully thought out guide. I played the game through the first time without the guide but then bought and read the guide cover to cover before starting the game over again (in Free Play mode). Really added to my enjoyment the second time through. Helped me find things I simply missed the first time. Enjoyable read, especially for a game guide. Great screen captures and art work. Lots of nice extras. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-03-09 Summary: Recommended ... Good game guide, it's helpful, covering every chapter in full detail, history and free modes, even when sometimes it is not very clear it helps. It misses some canister locations, among them, the most difficult to find, which is the one in the first chapter, but this is hidden in the elevator ramp behind the crane and it's accessed with one of the cars built in previous sections (attainable only in free mode) It does not cover the locations for all the red bricks, this would help a lot. ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-01-04 Summary: Lego Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy Game Guide ... Very insightful, helps me find most of the items I can't otherwise find. ...more
