Summary: A great book!
... This book is a very helpful guide. It tells you everything that you need to make a good robot, from building a sturdy structure to programming it. With this book, you will be able to explore the full potential of your robot kit. Beside basic instructions, the book also has 6 projects to give you a hand-on experience. Each project has both building and programming guides. The building guide is made very careful; beside the picture, it also has a clear written instruction to make the building task easier. I use this

Summary: Fun, helpful, informative for beginner and intermediate
... I've had NXT for about 10 months and have three other books. I wish I had know about this first. My strong point is programming, my weak point is gearing and this is the only book that really shows how to build gear trains. I love rover bots and have designed many but he has several fresh takes on the genre. His ball caster is much more elegant than mine and his bumper is quite sturdy. (My method of picking a random angle for a turn is better than his though: random block set for 0 to 6 wired to a switch block with

Summary: An excellent LEGO MINDSTORMS book for both beginners and advanced builders alike
... These are my first impressions on David Purdue's book, I will follow up later when I finish reading it. So far what I can say is that it differs from other No Starch Press books in many ways. For starters, the quality of the images (in grayscale) is very much improved. I found no difficulty following the building instructions which David managed to keep simple and well commented. I would not say it is as if they were in color, but it is close enough. In other No Starch books I really did have problems in that area,

Building Robots with LEGO Mindstorms NXT
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-09-25 Summary: Inspirational ... This book is just fantastic. Starts out with the basics for building strong stable robots, and moves on to more complex ideas. Great examples of robots throughout the book which will provide ideas for building your own masterpiece. It doesn't have step by step instructions, and is more of an ideas book for NXT enthusiasts. I'd recommend this for your home or Robotics club library. ...more

Getting Started with LEGO Trains
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-01-03 Summary: Recommended for real Lego Train fans ... This book delivers pretty much what you would expect. The first part covers some general background on the Lego 9V train system (if you are looking for info on the newer RC stuff, this book is not for you). The second part gives detailed building instructions for some cars and an engine. The last chapter gives some track layout ideas. The book is written in a very to-the-point style and very well illustrated. The projects suggested are very nice, though it might be hard finding some of the parts Jake suggests using. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2004-12-16 Summary: Mainstream LEGO train documentation ... Well written, lots of research, with the three model diagrams being the highlight of this book. Beginners will have to put the book down, get the bricks they need, then come back to build McKee's great designs. I would have ordered the designs a bit differntly, however, with easier designs first, leading up to the more complicated engine design. There's a lot of good reference here, and the author is quite thorough when following through on his assumed intentions to introduce LEGO trains into the mainstream. He's broken ...more
