Summary: great lego books!
... the minifigure book is a great celebration of an iconic lego item! one criticism, there is a bias towards more recent minifigures, for example, there are no pictures of the original yellow castle minifigures! the main book has some great features, specifically, great shots of early lego sets, and the wooden toys the company produced before it began making the bricks, there are features of great historic interest such as a double page spread on the evolution of the lego logo. a similar criticism could be made however,

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-12-16 Summary: Loved it ... This is a back to the basics or what some call the tricks of the trade type book. I really enjoyed looking through it and learning new stuff. Great guide to all the pieces and naming conventions. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-12-06 Summary: Something even for the master builder ... I've been building with Lego bricks for over 30 years. I bought this book to add to my collection not expecting to "learn" much but have something to share and refer to from now and again. I was very happily surprised after reading and learning a few new building techniques. While this book isn't exhaustive of every single SNOT or other advanced building technique (btw, there isn't one) this is a great single volume that is a happy addition to every LEGO enthusiast's library. I have also recommended this book for persons ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-11-23 Summary: The Pieces Fit. . .Great Book! ... I hinted quite strongly to my family that I wanted this book for my birthday, and I received it recently. It is everything I had hoped it would be: comprehensive, detailed, easy-to-understand and written by someone who clearly has a love of Legos. I especially enjoyed the extensive vocabulary chapter (I always instruct students that learning starts when we all "talk the same talk". . .having these common terms helps) and the Brickopedia. I also liked how the book begins with basic terminology and techniques and builds ...more

[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-10-22 Summary: Great overview book of NXT ... Even though I have been working with the NXT as a teacher since it came out, I learned things about how to better build or program the NXT. Since I teach mostly introductory robotics using the NXT, I explored some additional concepts using this book. If you are new to the NXT, this is for sure a great first book to read. It begins with explainations of the LEGO pieces used in the NXT kit and then explores all of the basic programming blocks. For someone who has used the NXT, but just jumped into it without any previous ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-07-06 Summary: Classroom Favorite ... I'm a classroom teacher in a public elementary school. I purchased a copy of this book about 10 years ago for my 1st and 2nd grade classroom and have seen it get daily use from children ever since, the last four years in a 4th-grade classroom. Primarily a few boys who are Lego fanatics are the ones who find the book early in the year and return to it day after day. The first copy I had received such intense use that it's seen numerous repairs, and to deal with the popularity I purchased another (used since it was out ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-11-08 Summary: My kids' favorite book for years now ... My almost-11-yo son got this book several years ago. He took it to school the first day of first grade because he was supposed to bring his favorite book. That was at least 5 years ago and the book is on my dining room table from where he and his younger (7yo) brother were looking at it last night. It's never on his bookshelf - it's always either on his bed or floor or otherwise out because he looks at it all the time. Both kids read regular books, too, of course, but this one is almost like one of their toys. I don't ...more

[2] ... Review | "This book is not a book about a toy. It is a book about an idea, a set of values, and a long-term commitment to empowering children to use their creativity and build their imagination." So states Lego Group president Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen in his introduction to this fascinating, visually exciting tribute to Lego bricks and the people who play with them. Lego "maniacs" are no mere invention of Lego Group's industrious marketing machine. Enthusiastic fans of the ingeniously designed, colorful plastic...more
